What is Autism?

Autism is an extremely complex disorder but for now lets put it's many characteristics into four fundamental areas: sensory processing challenges, speech/language delays and impairments, elusive social interaction skills, and whole child self-esteem issues. And though these issues are common to many children, keep in mind the fact that autism is a spectrum disorder; no two (ten or twenty) children with autism will be completely alike. Every child will be at a different point on the spectrum and each will have a unique set of needs.
Some days the only predictable thing about autism is the unpredictability, and the only consistent thing is the inconsistency. There is little argument that autism is baffling, even to those who spend their lives around it. The child with autism may look "normal" but his behavior is perplexing and even downright difficult.
Autism was once thought to be an "incurable" disorder but that is quickly changing in the face of knowledge and understanding. Everyday individuals who suffer with autism are showing us that they can overcome, compensate for and manage many of autism's most challenging characteristics. Helping them on their journey towards a productive, independent adulthood is the main goal of those around them.
There are doctors(DAN defeat autism now) who specialize in helping with the many health issues that are common to most individuals with autism. Unfortunately health insurance doesn't cover most treatment of autism so these doctors are paid for out-of-pocket by the families who need them. When this added to the cost of special dietary foods and vitamins and other supplements that anyone with autism needs the expense is enormous for the family. It has been estimated that to treat, care for and educate an individual with autism the cost is between $70,000.00 to $100,000.00 per year. This is a lot for any family to shoulder, so that is one of the reasons it is necessary for them to seek assistance by every possible means. That is the reason that I am donating part of the proceeds from the sale of any of my jewelry and craft creations to this family to help ease their burden of having 2 autistic children. I hope that if any of these items are of interest to you that you will contact me and help me with this challenge. My email is pinkdreamlife@yahoo.com
